A Lesson From the Biggest Losers: Exercise Keeps Off the Weight

NYT article by Gina Kolata 2017

"Dr. Kerns, a contestant in Season 3 of the show, says she has managed to keep off 100 pounds only by tracking everything she eats and by exercising on an elliptical cross-trainer for 35 to 40 minutes a day. In addition, her job requires her to walk around the hospital seeing patients.
She has learned that she cannot relax this regimen if she wants to maintain her weight. “My natural tendency is to regain,” she said."
My Comment:
In the NWCR 10,000 people have maintained their weight loss with 1500 calorie diet and walking 1 hour a day.  Dr. Kerns is one of those people.   The article says nothing of  how Dr. Kerns deals with hunger.
To relay on exercise will eventually fail with injury.  As with the winner of the Biggest Loser Danny Cahill suffered injuries he regained weight.  The article does not mention if he kept to a 1500 calorie diet or tried diet medications.
