Sharon R. Akabas, Ph.D. tells sad truth of weight loss 1m 40s video

link above

In May 2015 I attended a American Board of Obesity Medicine preparation conference for the test at Columbia.  I was very excited that Doctors R Leibel, Mark Rosenbaum and Vasseli were scheduled to speak.  They were great and I repeat the science they presented in The Chronic Disease of Obesity.
After the talks however the nutritionists, exercise and diet counselors were consoled by Dr. Akabas with the sad truth above. (see video link above)  In April, 2008 Gina Kolata wrote about the False Hope of Diet and Exercise in her book, Re-Thinking ThinIn 2012, I wrote about the Sponge Syndrome Theory in The Tubby Traveler from Topeka. After passing the ABOM exam I wrote an update validating the science of Kolata's and my ideas in The Chronic Disease of Obesity Feb 2018.When you read advice about the false hope of maintaining weight loss with will power and diet and exercise remember this disregards the science. Low leptin in 80,000,000 fat cells that never go away cause tremendous hunger by increasing ghrelin and decreased metabolism which means you can't outrun your fork. The only way to fight this for the rest of your life is to use the new diet medicationsOther wise the Sponge Syndrome will slowly regain your weight over the years even with continued exercise a  relatively lower calorie diet.  The diet pills allow you to eat 1200 to 1500 calories a day without extreme hunger.  You cannot sustain a diet for life that keeps you hungry without lifelong diet medications.
