I had my third cognitive exam by Dr Russell Swerdlow at the Memory Clinic with KUMCR.
He seemed pleased with my results of his hour long cognitive testing.
Dr Swerdlow said keep doing whatever it is you are doing.
He predicted I had another good year coming.
Yesterday I took my 3 hour cognitive exam for a non-treatment research trial that I am participating in with Kansas University Medical Center Research Center.
It is the third time I have had the exam since my Diagnosis was made in Dec 2017.
That is 2 years and 9 months ago.
I thought I did better on this exam than I ever have.
They don't tell me the results because of the double blind of the trial even though I am on no specific medical treatment other than Namzaric.
Part of the reason for doing better is familiarity.
I remember my hands sweating during the first battery of tests in 2018
Itn2019 the sweating was less.
In 2020 I had no sweating and could tell I did much better.
What happened?
Which of my drugs or behavior improved my scores?
1- I believe Namzaric was important but it usually is less effective after two years.
2- I am keeping my LDLp lower than ever before.
3- My blood pressure is always below 120 systolic
4- My weight is down to 207 pounds which is quite good for me.
5- I have been walking 1-2 miles a day.
6- Last month I started using dumbbells each day
7- I recently added ZINC.
8- I recently switched to Magnesium Threonate.
9- I recently stopped testosterone because my level was too high.
10- I have gotten my Vitamin D level very high to 88.
11- I had to stop Cialis due to mild headaches.
12- I still drink 2-5 oz alcohol each day.
13- I had tiredness and depression after my concussion but that improved with increase in Citalopram.
I was on INTERMITTENT FASTING FOR 8 MONTHS.
I did not really lose weight but it dropped my Hgb A1c by 2 points.
I had to stop it because the stress from hunger finally caused too much anxiety.
If I knew that was the variable that made the difference I would go back on IM for 14 hours a day.
I have always been in Ketosis since 2011 when I began Low carb High fat diet.
Of course my ketosis was higher during fasting but
eventually my glucose before ending my 14 hour fast was increasing so I stopped IM because of anxiety. I think my glucose was going up (not by a lot) due to prolonged stress from 8 months of fasting which caused my cortisol to go up with increased glucose. This is my theory.
I just received a phone call from Hoglund MRI center at KUMC.
When I had my concussion last March I apparently developed a 4mm thin subdural hematoma
There was no significant midline shift but he wanted me to check it out with my Doctor.
I am not concerned.
I doubt I will stop my Xarelto.
We will see what Dr. Swerdlow says.
This was a MRI at a reseach center and seemed to be much better than other MRI's I have had.
It is longer at 55 minutes.
For 10 minutes I keep my eyes open.
The MRI was read by Neuro-radiologist.
I suspect if I had an MRI at a local MRI in Florida the subdural may not have been found.
I told my wife if she finds me in a coma she should call an ambulance or if I have signs of a stroke.
