At the beginning of I am waiting for when I forget I have Alzheimer's, I wrote about an uplifting dream I had.
Last night I had a disturbing dream which I think was a metaphor for my future with Alzheimers.
I arrive at this place with luggage.
I enter through a gate and pass though a large yard.
Later when it was time to leave the dogs had been left out.
They were large hairy dogs probably similar to my Newfoundland but more amorphous.
We have 3 Newfoundlands in the family but if I had recognized them I would have called out their names.
When I left the building and closed the door they impeded my progress to leave. They didn't bite or hurt me, they just overwhelmed me physically slowing my progress to the gate. At times I was crawling through them.
Finally outside the gate I realize I forgot my luggage and I have to go back through the dogs.
Inside the building the staff tell me they don't have my luggage.
Nonplussed(meaning I was surprised and confused so much that I was unsure how to react)., I set out to get through the dogs to the street.
When I woke up, I told the dream to my wife.
I tried to piece the fragments of the dream together which was difficult but the emotional content was unmistakable, I was disturbed about the experience.
I interpreted the dream as a metaphor for my future as an Alzheimer's patient.
Life will be a struggle just to accomplish simple things.
Dealing with people will get more difficult in tedious ways that make communication impossible.
I won't understand what is happening.
And the subsequent feeling will not be pleasant.
